CAMP GRUBER, Okla. (July 25, 2021) – Civil Air Patrol adult and cadet members from around the country descended upon Camp Gruber, an Oklahoma Army National Guard training facility in Muskogee, Oklahoma July 24 2021. Over 120 members are in attendance at the wing’s eight-day annual training encampment.
TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. (June 25, 2021) – Lt Col. Aaron E. Oliver was recently selected as the next commander of Civil Air Patrol’s Oklahoma Wing. He succeeds Col. David L. Roberts, Jr who assumed command in July 2017. The change of command ceremony will take place at the Oklahoma Wing Conference on July 17 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
SHAWNEE, Okla. (June 20, 2021) – The Civil Air Patrol’s Oklahoma Wing will host 20+ students from around the country, including Hawaii for its Powered Flight Academy located in Shawnee, Oklahoma, announced Col. David Roberts, the Oklahoma wing commander. The event is part of a network of CAP National Flight Academies aimed at inspiring teens age 16-years and older to obtain their aviation private pilot certificate.

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. (May 7, 2021) – In summer 1944, 16-year-old Frank F. Borman II had his eyes on the skies, having recently earned his private pilot's certificate. That summer he joined Civil Air Patrol’s Arizona Wing as a cadet in Tucson, learning the customs and courtesies of CAP and the Army Air Forces.
MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (May 1, 2021) – Clifton Emmett "Cliff" Cushman joined Civil Air Patrol as a cadet in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in the mid-1950s. A high school and collegiate track star, Cushman was an NCAA individual and track and field team champion at the University of Kansas. In 1960 he commissioned as a U.S. Air Force second lieutenant and won the silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles in the Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy.
TULSA, Okla. (March 25, 2021) – A little over a year ago the country faced the beginnings of a health crisis. As the country began shutdowns it affected every fabric of American society. Restaurants closed, retail outlets closed, and schools sent students home to begin virtual studies. As schools retooled their internal frameworks and class designs moved education to homes, an unintended consequence arose in Arizona. The American Red Cross, an organization of volunteers and staff working to deliver vital services - from providing relief and support to those in crisis, to helping the American people be prepared to respond in emergencies, lost its primary blood donation sites. The Red Cross contacted Civil Air Patrol officials in the state. Arizona CAP members knew exactly what to do.
MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (February 28, 2021) – Hila Levy, Civil Air Patrol’s 2004 Cadet of the Year and recipient of CAP's highest cadet honor, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2008.
While a notable achievement in itself, she was not the first CAP cadet to do so. About 10% of Air Force Academy incoming freshmen each year are CAP cadets. She was, however, the first to earn top of her class honors, and she then went on to be CAP's first Rhodes scholar, receiving one of the only 32 prestigious scholarships awarded in the U.S. that year.
