Muskogee, Okla (June 25-July 2, 2022) — Civil Air Patrol adult and cadet members from around the country will descend upon Camp Gruber, an Oklahoma Army National Guard training facility in Muskogee, Oklahoma. McAlester, Okla (May 4th, 2022) — Civil Air Patrol will be hosting open houses on the last three Mondays in May at the Pittsburg County Emergency Management Office from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The future planned CAP flight will be based out of EOC, located at 1210 North West Street in McAlester.
EDMOND, Okla. (May 4, 2022) – Edmond’s Fire Training facility was a bustle of activity as 65 Civil Air Patrol members from all over Oklahoma joined their wing commander, Col Aaron Oliver, for a multiday education and training event at the facility, located at 5300 E Covell Road.
“Relationships are critical to our success in a volunteer organization,” stated Colonel Oliver. “While the training objectives of the weekend were to better prepare leaders to create meaningful experiences for cadets and other adult members, it was also to bring people together to renew friendships and open dialogue with other volunteers.”
JENKS, Okla (April 17, 2022) — Civil Air Patrol’s planned open house Monday, April 18, has been converted to a fly-in with the support of aviators from around northeastern Oklahoma. The Riverside Composite Squadron in Jenks, Oklahoma will be hosting an open house from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The squadron is based out of Tulsa Technology Center’s Riverside Campus, located at Tulsa Riverside Airport, 801 E 91st Street.
BROKEN ARROW, Okla (April 14, 2022) – Civil Air Patrol’s Broken Arrow Composite Squadron recognized several members at an awards ceremony held at the Broken Arrow Army National Guard Armory, located at 2401 S 9th Street.
Cadets Second Lt. Grayson Robinson and Allain Tupas became the squadron’s newest cadet officers upon receiving the Gen. Billy Mitchell Award at the ceremony.
The Gen. Billy Mitchell Award has existed since 1964. This award honors the late Brigadier General Billy Mitchell, an aviation pioneer, advocate, and staunch supporter of an independent Air Force for America. The award is earned after completing the first eight achievements of the cadet program. In addition, the cadet must pass a 100-question examination testing leadership theory and aerospace topics. Only 15% of CAP cadets reach this level of the program.
Following the Second World War, Berlin, Germany was divided into two parts; Eastern and Western Berlin. The Soviet Union controlled the East while the U.S. and its allies controlled the West. On June 24, 1948, the Soviet Union started blockading rail, road, and water access to the Allied-controlled areas. This resulted in the people within Berlin not having the resources necessary to survive. The Allied response to this was airlifting food, fuel, and other resources to bases in Western Germany to aid them during the siege. After suffering through another war, the people of Berlin were at their lowest and I imagine moral was almost nonexistent.
